Heather earned her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Public Relations, cum laude, from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School in New York City, where she volunteered as a mediator in small claims court for the borough of Manhattan and, working with Fordham’s Urban Policy Clinic, helped draft legislation to assist young adults with the transition from foster care to independent living.

After returning to Gainesville to complete her education as a visiting student at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Heather worked throughout North Florida as a regional field director for 2006 Gubernatorial candidate Rod Smith. Following the 2006 election, Heather worked as a public policy director for the Florida Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, a statewide association providing education, advocacy, and regulatory guidance to providers of long-term care, home and community-based services, and affordable housing for the elderly.

Heather is a member of the Elder Law and Real Property, Probate and Trust Sections of the Florida Bar, and is admitted to practice in the Federal Court for the Middle District of Florida. She is a member the Lake City chapter of Altrusa International, the Third Judicial Circuit Bar Association, the Gerald T. Bennett Inn of Court, and Grace Chapel Ministries in O’Brien, Florida.
